The Practice Consultant is accountable for the development, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of clinical educational initiatives and projects as they relate to the organization's vision and strategic plan, our corporate goals and individual departmental objectives across the three integrated care divisions. The Practice Consultant will achieve these accountabilities through consultation, collaboration, partnerships, direct/indirect nursing practice, role modeling, mentoring and influencing change. All duties are performed in accordance with Providence Healthcare's Mission and Values.


  • Conducts reviews of individual professional practice concerns/issues as requested. Presents findings and suggestions, including recommendations for disciplinary actions as requested. Develops and assists with monitoring remedial actions plans for Directors as requested;

  • With key stakeholders identifies areas of education and clinical practice needs and concerns;

  • Collaborates with care management team members to identify and determine priorities for educational initiatives and projects;

  • Develops/has an area of clinical expertise that can be disseminated across the three integrated care divisions. Leads educational initiatives in areas of expertise;

  • Offers professional practice support to the Patient Care Unit Managers on the hiring, orientation and ongoing evaluation and termination of professional staff, as requested;

  • Interprets, utilizes and promotes the use of evidence based practice, research and theory as the basis for the individual practice and for developing educational initiatives;

  • Together with others, designs appropriate audit tools to evaluate learning outcomes. Completes formal and informal evaluation of education programs by analyzing and using evaluation data to improve and reinforce learning activities;

  • Together with others, participates in the design of appropriate quality indicators for educational initiatives and makes recommendations regarding process improvement. Monitors and evaluates the quality assurance program for education;

  • Assists in preparing annual business plans, budgets and makes suggestions regarding facility-wide resources and capital equipment for educational initiatives.


  • Registered Nurse in current good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario;

  • Undergraduate degree completed or in progress, Masters preferred; or a combination of education and experience relevant to position will be considered;

  • Demonstrated clinical expertise, relevant to identified patient population;
