Status: Temporary full-time (two year contact with possibility of renewal)

A position is available for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Reid Lab at the Krembil Research Institute, University Health Network, affiliated with the University of Toronto.

This fellowship position is available immediately to study experimental post-traumatic epilepsy. The mission of our research program is to characterize animal models of post-traumatic epilepsy, gain a better understanding of mechanisms involved in the development epilepsy, and develop therapeutic strategies to prevent epilepsy.

Requirements:

  • Applicants must possess a recent PhD (within past 4 years) or an MD with significant basic science research experience, focused on either whole animal models of traumatic brain injury or epilepsy. Experience in a combination of the two areas would be ideal.

  • Experience in intracranial electrode implantation surgery for long-term video-EEG monitoring and EEG data analysis is highly desirable. Programming in Matlab would be an asset.

  • Other desirable skills include: in vivo MRI or PET imaging, intracerebral microdialysis, immunohistochemistry, Western blots, and ELISAs.

  • Must have excellent communication and technical writing skills (English).

  • Competitive applicants should have a record of first-authored publications in quality peer-reviewed journals.
