Salary Range: Commensurate with experience and consistent with UHN Compensation Policy
Status: Permanent Full-Time
As Research Safety Coordinator , reporting to the Research Safety Manager and Senior Director, the successful candidate will be responsible for but not limited to: maintaining and coordinating safety programs in a basic and clinical research setting; assisting with the development of safety literature/departmental process, research personnel support, support for incident response/investigation; provision of safety training, biosafety review of research projects, research area inspections/audit; coordinating multiple/simultaneous small scale projects for assigned user groups; performing quality management responsibilities; performing data management/communication and administrative responsibilities; performing cross-functional and other duties consistent with the job classification as assigned and/or as requested. A key responsibility will include the development and maintenance of a safety program, including standard operating procedures and guidelines, in a dynamic research environment incorporating mechanical lifts/hoists, robotics, imaging, lasers and sophisticated machine, electronic, plastics and wood-working shops. Intra-city travel is a periodic requirement.
At minimum, a Bachelor's Degree in Science/Engineering degree or recognized equivalent
Minimum five (5) years' related experience
Comprehensive knowledge and/or experience in safety and use of: mechanical lifts/hoists, mechanical and electrical machinery
Understanding of mechanical design, electrical design and related software
Understanding and/or experience in laboratory safety program such as biosafety, chemical safety, laser safety, mechanical & electrical safety and general safety in a basic and/or clinical research setting
Experience in development and maintenance of training programs for large and small audiences, with strong presentation abilities incorporating multiple delivery methods: oral, multi-media & hands-on demonstration skills.
Comprehensive knowledge and/or experience in developing standard operating procedures and safety literature
Experience with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, Power Point)
Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
Strong organizational and problem solving skills
Experience in project management an asset
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
