Cara Operations Senior Designer, Design Development in Vaughan, Ontario

CARA Operations Limited is currently recruiting for a Senior Designer, Design Development to join our team.

Reporting to the V.P Design and Innovation this new position owns and manages Brand Prototype standards, specifications and would have a key role in providing wider team support in developing creative design solutions and have a thorough understanding of construction costs so as to provide profitable design solutions to key stakeholders. Participate in continuously identifying opportunities for value engineering the design of buildings.

As the ideal candidate your duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Work with the Real Estate Managers to plot the prototype buildings on the Site Plans or develop initial test fits for internal evaluation and pricing.

  • Liase closely with construction team in evaluating, presenting and tracking accurate preliminary pricing and provide design directions to consultants.

  • Liaise with the Operations Team to obtain approvals on non-standard site layout and elevations, image, standards, specifications, equipment, signage, materials, lighting

  • Provide input on Landlord work schedules

  • Participate in identifying opportunities in value engineering, design, prototype development, innovation, R&D in design, construction and industry best practices.

  • Manage electronic and hardcopy database of drawings for new and existing units, gathering and delivering post mortem cost analysis on projects and key learning.

  • Manage the issuance and updating all brand standards, specifications, cost tracking and pricing documents to key stakeholders (Construction, development team).

  • Creating and managing all support systems, drawing review for design compliance, reports, files, communications to all stakeholders (Brands, PM’s, Consultants)

  • Liase with Equipment, vendor’s on standards specifications, spec. approval, K drawing, prototype specifications

  • Providing a formalized drawing review support system and project specific/ PM support and post mortem review of projects from design to cost analysis.

  • Management of the Renovation packages, specifications, tool kits, PM support documents and select vendors.

  • Supporting design innovation through R&D, conferences, industry knowledge.

As the ideal candidate you will offer:

  • Minimum five years’ experience in retail design and construction

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture or Interior Design or related field and/or Professional designation

  • Solid understanding of the development process

  • Project Management experience & skills

  • Exceptional expertise in Microsoft Office Suite, Sketchup, AutoCAD 14, InDesign, Photoshop/Illustrator at a minimum.

  • Ability to review and critique LL tenant work schedules

  • Advanced organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multi-task

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

  • Adherence to strict capital expenditure procedures and experience in construction pricing principles

  • Attention to detail, analytical and problem solving skills

  • Familiarity with architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical systems

  • Management of outside consultants, municipal authorities, internal stakeholders

  • Adherence to strict capital expenditure procedures and experience in construction pricing principles

  • Design portfolio will be a required
