Job Title: Care Aide
Work Site: Totem Lodge, Sechelt
Status: Temporary Part Time (0.77 FTE) (Indefinite)
Start Date: As soon as possible
Salary: $23.05 per hour
Hours: Rotating 0700-1500 / 1500-2300
Within the context of a resident/client and family centered care model and in accordance with established vision and values of the organization, the Care Aide works under the functional direction of a Registered Nurse or other designate and in cooperation with interdisciplinary team members to assist in the delivery of client care.
Following established care plans provides personal care; bathes, grooms, dresses, assists with meals and oral hygiene and performs nursing care duties as applicable. Responds to call bells/alarms. Observes and monitors clients’ progress, symptoms and behavioural changes and reports/records significant observations.
Utilizes mechanical aides such as specialty beds, wheelchairs and stretchers to transport clients and provides assistance with lifting and/or transferring of clients following established lifting/safety techniques. Maintains a clean and safe environment for clients and staff. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Grade 10 (including English 10).
Graduation from a recognized Resident Care Attendant program.
**Vancouver Coastal Health requires applicants to demonstrate English language proficiency as set by the CACHWR. You will be required to provide one of the documents below if you are selected for consideration:
If you are a native English speaker: proof of completion of Grade 10 English or;
If you are a non-native English speaker: copy of results from one of these standardized English proficiency tests, TOEFL, IELTS, CLB PT, CELPIP, CAEL.

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and proficiently both verbally and in writing
Ability to deal with others effectively and respectfully.
Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
Ability to organize work.
Ability to operate related equipment (such as Patient Care Information Systems)
The hours of work including days off and work area may be subject to change consistent with operational requirements and the provision of the Collective Agreement and applicable statutes. Successful applicants may be required to complete a Criminal Records Review Check.
