Chemtura Corporation Chief Operating Engineer in Canada

The Chief Operating Engineer will be responsible for overseeing the daily operation of boilers, waste water system, ground water and refrigeration systems. Review and signing log books daily reviewing findings in shift logs and compiling data collected by others for management review. The incumbent will be responsible for scoping projects relevant to the Steam Plant. They will be responsible for completing requested duties, inspections, and meet operational requirements. The Chief Engineer must possess the knowledge to be able to respond to larger issues around the boilers and wastewater systems.

The Chief Engineer is expected to provide team leadership, coaching and mentoring to all staff. A hands on role working very closely with all operations departments daily to provide immediate, timely support, in order to ensure operational needs/ issues are met. Ensure that all corporate safety, policies and procedures, good housekeeping practices are being routinely followed.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for overseeing the safe efficient operation of boilers, waste water treatment system, ground water treatment

  • Ensuring chemical supplies are on hand to operate boilers and waste water treatments

  • Perform routine daily inspections and record results and findings

  • Advise on preventative maintenance and repairs to various operating systems

  • Prepare scopes of work, proposals, and fee estimates for projects in the Steam Plant

  • Manages projects the cost and scheduling constraints

  • Selecting, managing and working with sub-contractors

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • 4-7 years experience in a supervisory role (or other positions considered)

  • Hold a valid 3rd Class Operating Engineer certificate

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, an asset

  • Experience in scoping projects and proposals

  • Project management skills from initial planning stages to completion

  • Experience managing projects under $250K

  • Able to execute assigned process tasks within a budget and on schedule

  • Working knowledge of Technical Safety Standard Authority, codes and other government regulations

  • Extensive knowledge of natural gas fired boilers/steam generator systems

  • Must be knowledgeable in waste water treatment process

  • Refrigeration knowledge and advanced mechanical aptitude would be an asset

  • Able to follow all corporate safety related policies and procedures

  • Good communication skills both verbally and written

  • Demonstrated ability to operate computer applications such as SAP, word, office, excel etc.
