Job Title: Communications Coordinator
Work Site: VGH 12th & Oak
Status: Regular Full Time - (1.00 FTE)
Reporting to the Communications Manager, Vancouver Coastal Health Research Institute (VCHRI), the Communications Coordinator:
plans, coordinates, and delivers communication services.
supports a wide variety of communications and related activities designed to support and promote research and innovation at VCHRI, its researchers, and its stakeholders to internal and external audiences at the local, regional, provincial, and national level.
works with the Communications Manager and in collaboration with various staff in the VCHRI administration office as well as senior leaders, directors, investigators and managers within key VCHRI Research Centers and Programs on various projects and tasks that enhance communications within our research community.
produces written publications including brochures, newsletters and bulletins.
produce content for the VCHRI website, electronic newsletter and work with UBC and VCH to help produce content for their publications/websites.
assists with planning media and public events related to research activities.
function in a team setting with a degree of autonomy and independence, providing administrative support to the Communications Manager within broad guidelines set by the VCHRI Executive Director.
Bachelors degree in Communications or Journalism plus a minimum of one to three years recent related experience working in a Communications department or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Experience with social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter , creating content and outreach to a specific audience
ROLE SPECIFIC EXPERTISE:
Strong journalistic, business and research writing and editing skills to compose stories and messages for a variety of target audiences in a clear and concise manner.
Extremely strong writing, editing and proofreading skills
Proactively suggests news ways to increase awareness about the value of research being done at VCH to staff, media, community and stakeholders
Well-developed research abilities to write articles, profiles and verify information
Uses exceptional interpersonal and verbal communication skills to gather information and work effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
Ability to write project communication plans that align with the strategic direction of VCHRI and other stakeholders.
Uses advanced computer skills in a variety of software applications and web-based technologies including content management, to develop attractive communications materials.
Employs the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with skill, tact and diplomacy.
