Job Title: Director, Clinical Quality & Patient Safety

Status: Regular Full Time - Baseline (1.00 FTE)

JOB SUMMARY:

As the new Director, Clinical Quality and Patient Safety, you will report to the Executive Director and be a member of the Senior Leadership team for the Coastal Community of Care (CoC) and be responsible for the strategies and leadership of clinical quality and patient safety. You will act as a ember of the Regional Quality and Patient Safety team and have a matrixed relationship with the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the Coastal CoC. Collaborating with the COO and management team members you will need to support strategic plans and the vision and values of Vancouver Coastal Health (VCH) through designing and developing quality improvement programs in accordance with operational demands. Ensuring that common barriers to change are identified and effective regional solutions are agreed upon will be important in determining your success. Working closely with other regional initiatives for example professional practice, to ensure alignment and sustainability. Your expertise will also be needed in leading Patient Safety and Quality activities including evaluation, research, accreditation, and event management to continually support the reduction of preventable adverse events during the provision of care.

Initiatives you will lead and implement:

  • Provincial Patient Safety and Learning System

  • Ministry of Health key strategies for Clinical Care Management

  • Key infection control initiatives/indicators

QUALIFICATIONS:

As the successful candidate, you...

  • Have progressively senior leadership experience in clinical quality and patient safety within a complex health care environment; this could include progressive clinical practice, education, research, and/or project management experience,

  • Are a strong decision maker with the ability to consider manage the potential impact to health authority service provision and client care,

  • Utilize sound business acumen to manage the fiscal resources in a manner that is financially responsible and consistent with the overall goals of the organization,

  • Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with others at all levels of the organization,

  • Work well with external stakeholders, such as the Ministry of Health, Accreditation Canada, BC Patient Safety & Quality Council, and Canadian Patient Safety Institute,

  • Maintain current practicing registration with an applicable regulatory body such as the CRNBC,

  • Have a Masters’ Degree in a related health profession.

Other Role Specific Expertise:

  • Applies project management methodologies in the design and development of various frameworks, tools, and techniques.

  • Strong systems-thinking, critical analysis, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

  • Demonstrated knowledge in quality and utilization management, quality improvement methodologies, principles, tools, and workload measurement; evidence-based practice in patient safety.

  • Provides expertise and support in the development of organizational goals and objectives, performance indicators, appropriate databases and statistical and analytical tools.
