The Engineering Supervisor is responsible for the ongoing maintenance, repair and preventive maintenance of the hotel with a focus to improve efficiency, profitability and service levels, through the day-to-day supervision of the Engineering Department.

Summary of Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Chief Engineer, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Demonstrates Fairmont Service Promise Standards and Fairmont Values in all interactions with both guests and colleagues.

  • Provides supervision, administration, leadership and direction to maintenance team.

  • Develops and implements administrative standards, procedures and guidelines to ensure consistency, safety and prompt service to internal and external guests.

  • Ensures delivery of exceptional service through focus on training, problem resolution and employee satisfaction.

  • Ensures highest level of productivity through regular spot checks, proactive staff planning and effective scheduling.

  • Looks into assigning daily work orders and projects in accordance to the qualifications of the staff and priority/urgency of the job.

  • Makes purchase orders and keeps inventory of parts/materials in hand and orders parts to maintain minimum inventory level.

  • Coordinates the Preventive Maintenance program with the Chief Engineer and implement an effective reinforcement technique.

  • Suggests new techniques and ideas for effective training and development of the Engineering team.

  • Tracks work orders and does constant follow-up on jobs to ensure that these are completed professionally and according to Fairmont Standards.

  • Adheres to, and ensures the team adheres to, Health & Safety policy and ensuring safe work practices are followed at all times.

  • Ensures that all mechanical and other areas in the hotel do not pose a safety hazard to any individual.

  • Ensures that contractors working on hotel jobs sign in and wear contractor badges before proceeding to their work place. They are to sign the necessary liability forms.

  • Monitors of the fire panel and sprinkler systems in the building to ensure that regular and preventive maintenance jobs are completed by the specified contractors as specified.

  • Sets an example to the team in quality workmanship and timely completion of assigned tasks.

  • Communicates effectively with other departments. Replaces the Chief Engineer in communication meetings as needed.

  • Supports and works with the Chief Engineer in meeting Fairmont Environmental standards and suggest innovative ideas for energy savings and conservation.

  • Work with and support the Chief Engineer in meeting engineering expense lines and adherence to monthly and annual reforecast.

  • Other related duties as assigned

Employee Status

Qualifications:

  • Minimum Grade 12 education

  • 5th Class Power Engineering Certification

  • Previous supervisory experience an asset.

  • Highly organized, decisive and ability to handle multiple projects under deadlines and changing priorities.

  • Computer knowledge of Word, Excel and the hotel Property Management system.

  • Should have the skill and posses the initiative to learn the building management system (DDC)

  • Skills in verbal and written presentations and teamwork skills and high level of initiative.

  • Ability to think long term and look at the bigger picture

  • Working knowledge of HVAC systems

  • Pool Operators Certificate is an asset
