Co-op Job Description:

Under the supervision of the Manager/Officer, AIS Shared Services Financial Reporting - the Co-op Financial Reporting Administrator will have an opportunity to learn the accounting, reporting and filing requirements on investment activities of offshore, hedge and private equity funds.

Worldwide IFRS is the leading accounting standard and with Canadian GAAP transitioning to IFRS, State Street offers a unique opportunity to experience and learn IFRS as well as US GAAP. As part of the co-op opportunity at State Street, IFRS and US GAAP exposure will be experienced through the responsibility of preparation and review of financial statements. There will be ongoing exposure to independent auditors and other State Street parties which will contribute to the development of excellent organization and project management skills.

Each Co-op Financial Reporting Administrator will participate in a comprehensive training program during their first week to enhance his/her success during the 16-week Co-Op period. The working hours are Monday to Friday, 40 hours per week plus overtime.

The Ideal Candidate will be Involved in the Following:

  • Preparing financial statements and information related to client specific reporting
  • Quality review specific sections of the financial statements
  • Prepare client specific fund activity reports, as requested
  • Research investment securities using Bloomberg & the Internet; ensure internal information sources are accurate and up-to-date
  • Communicate with independent auditors
  • Respond to ad-hoc requests

Skills Required:

  • Currently pursuing a business related discipline
  • Experience in preparation and understanding of financial statements in accordance with relevant accounting guidelines and standards is an asset
  • Desire to learn the Offshore & Hedge Fund industry and associated dynamic fund structures
  • Excellent PC skills (Microsoft Excel & Word and Access)
  • Effective communication skills (oral and written)
  • Superior attention to detail, time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and work well under pressure
