Cargill’s Agricultural Supply Chain – North America (CASC NA) connects agricultural producers to food, feed and industrial customers through a seamless supply chain. We help our customers compete in the global market and efficiently deliver products from origins to destinations through our marketing, sourcing, originating, storing, trading, consulting and processing of grain, oilseeds and crop inputs products and solutions. CASC NA business reaches across Canada, United States & Mexico with an expansive asset footprint including over 200 grain elevators, export/import facilities, oilseed crush plants, biodiesel facilities, and farm service centers.

Position Overview:

As a Power Engineering Intern, you will be part of a fast paced, hands-on team oriented plant environment. In this role, you will work with other utility technicians and provide assistance in operating the sites boilers, working on various projects, as well as providing assistance during the site’s planned shut downs. The role will have regular interaction with other utility technicians, crush operators, supervisors, maintenance and lab personnel.

Principle Accountabilities:

30% - Boiler Operation - provide assistance in operation of all equipment that is associated with boiler operation; assist in operating computerized and controlled systems in conjunction with departmental operations.

30% - Water Quality - provide assistance in operation of all equipment associated with Raw Water Pre-treatment Facilities; operation of all equipment associated with Wastewater Treatment Facilities; verifying water quality through testing, adding chemical treatment as necessary.

25% - Preventative Maintenance - ensure that equipment is fully operational and in good repair; trouble shoot problems as they arise; inspect buildings, grounds, and equipment utilized by facility; determine immediate and long range needs for maintenance and repair work; enter work orders utilizing maintenance computer program.

15% - Miscellaneous Duties - process samples utilizing lab equipment to obtain and record values on a computer spreadsheet and collect samples for several process areas; enter confined spaces under proper permit conditions and supervision; maintain a safe and sanitary atmosphere with a high regard for environmental impact of the operation; assist truck drivers with loading or unloading chemicals; provide assistance during planned shutdowns; work on various projects as directed by the Utility Supervisor; assist other crush and plant personnel as needed, and will perform any other duty as requested by the Utility Supervisor.

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Completing 1st year of studies in a certified power engineering program

  • Ability to ascend and descend stairs, ladders, etc. and to work in elevated areas of the plant

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

  • Very strong mathematical, analytical and troubleshooting skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Good time management skills

  • Ability to prioritize tasks and follow-up skills

  • Computer literate, including being able to enter and retrieve data


  • Experience in a food processing industry

  • Experience in an industrial environment
