Town of Richmond Hill Roads Technician in Canada
(40 Hour Work Week)
(Schedule: Monday to Friday, 7:30 A.M.- 4:00 P.M.)
Reporting to the Supervisor, Roads and Traffic Operations, you will provide technical skills and data collection related to roads infrastructure and roads systems. You will assist with the preparation and analysis of technical and maintenance studies for roads and stormwater management facilities and prepare reports and tender documents. You will be responsible for the Pavement Management System; coordinate special projects for construction or maintenance contracts; investigate innovative methods, procedures and products; coordinate and provide first line supervision for municipal roads contracts; maintain roads records and act as the primary contact for new resident’s operational issues within unassumed subdivisions which will include the “zero” tolerance program with contractors. You will provide technical assistance including cost estimates, preparation of payment certificates quantities calculations; assist with the preparation of annual budgets and maintenance projects; liaise with the public property owner’s builders, contractors, other departments, utilities, consultants, government agencies and other municipalities regarding municipal services and programs. Standby is also a requirement of this position, you must have the flexibility and availability to respond to after-hours emergencies, as required.
Your qualifications include a three (3) year diploma in Civil Engineering along with 5 to 7 years of experience in municipal infrastructure maintenance and operations and demonstrated experience in a supervisory capacity. Certification as a Technician by the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) is required. You are eligible to obtain the Certified Roads Supervisor designation within 2 years of hire. You are proficient with MS Office and have experience with an asset management systems or work management systems. You have a working knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Highway Traffic Act. You have excellent analytical administrative, organizational, problem solving and written/oral communication skills and the ability to deal effectively with tact, courtesy, discretion and diplomacy with all levels of staff and the public. You have the ability to work non-standard hours including evening and/or weekends when operationally required. You must be physically capable of performing duties under adverse conditions. A valid Class “G” driver’s license in good standing is required and you must provide a current satisfactory driver’s abstract from the M.T.O. The successful candidate will also be required to provide a police Vulnerable Sector Check within one month of commencing this position.
